Everett 10 Months

Everett 10 months

Another big month for you. You are on the move. You learned how to crawl at the end of July, but only went a couple feet at a time if there was a good toy you wanted to get. It took you a week and a half to really get the hang of it, and now there is no stopping you! It has become my full time job watching you scoot around and taking floor bits and paper and whatever else you can find out of your mouth. When you crawl, you keep one knee down and one up scooting with your foot to drive you forward. Hoping there are no hip problems in your future! You also love to stand up at whatever you can find to pull yourself up. You are getting more and more sturdy at it and only occasionally fall down now. You love the fireplace step. Lots of interesting things to pull and push on there. Often you fall down off of it, so I try to keep a good eye on you when you are up there. I started teaching you how to back down off of it, but so far the lessons haven’t stuck! You caught on really quickly to your walker, and love to walk behind it! You are also waving hi by opening and closing your hand. You wave bye by moving your whole arm. You can say ‘more’ in baby sign and have stopped screaming for food, although, you’re not entirely done with that. You say ma ma, da da and hi.
You are still a pretty good eater. You like meat, pasta, fruit, veggies, well pretty much everything. Except baby cereal. When you are done, you have started throwing your food on the floor. Sometimes just dropping it off the side of the highchair, but often throwing it. You’ve got a good arm.
You are finally sleeping through the night!! Woo Who!! Well, not consistently, but probably 2 out of 3 nights. Some nights are still very horrible, but I think it’s related to your rash or teething. Sleeping through the night means you are up a bit earlier in the morning, but I’m still happy you are going through the night! So, you also have 1 tooth now and a few more are closely following!
You aren’t so interested in the jumperoo anymore since you’ve gained mobility, but still enjoy the jolly jumper. You love balls! You love to throw toys. You love pulling hair. You like to be thrown into the air…but not too high! You like to go outside. You like watching the tractors. You have realized that you don’t like when we take things away from you, and let us know!!

We have been busy with harvest this month and you do pretty good at eating your supper early so I can get the suppers out to the field in time. Then you are pretty patient as the farmers are eating. You sit in your car seat or try to eat dirt on the jean blanket. Then you and I get to relax together while your siblings go for rides in the combines.

Everett, you are such a happy little guy! It is very easy to make you smile! You’ve had a couple of full blown laughing fits with your brother. I could never get sick of that sound! Now that you can sit independently, you are pretty content to just sit and play with toys. And by ‘play’ I mean put things in your mouth. We are glad you are not crawling yet because once you do, we will be very busy keeping things out of your mouth that shouldn’t be there!
Your hands have come out of your sleep sac! We’ve tried that before, but this time it was no problem to transition. It was necessary since you rolled in your sleep sac and had no hands free to help hold your head up…you were not a happy camper when that happened. But you now love to sleep with hands stretched up over your head. It is also good for you to put your own soother in at night, which sometimes happens. You have moved to having 2 one and a half hour naps (give or take). One at 10:00 and one at 2:30. We try to be quiet for you while you are sleeping, but you are now able to sometimes go back to sleep if you’re woken up. Nights haven’t changed much. You are usually up sometime between 2-5 to eat. I am longing for the day when you will sleep right through, but it doesn’t seem like it will be anytime soon! Once you slept from 12:00 to 7:00. That was magical! I still give you a dream feed, which I so enjoy doing. It’s the only time you will sleep on me now, and I savour that feeling! I love looking at your little face while you sleep and hold you just a bit longer than I maybe need to!
You still drink milk every 3 hours, but it’s getting to the point that we need to make changes with feeding routine. Now that you eat solids, you aren’t as interested in drinking milk, which makes it harder to feed you!
Some new skills  you learned this month were rolling a lot more and being able to cover a bit more ground, ‘reading’ books (basically just hitting them as I read), picking up food and actually getting some in your mouth, and maybe possibly saying mamma and da da da. You are so very wiggly now. You do not sit still! You love jumping - jumperoo, jolly jumper or just someone holding you. You love to stand and can take a couple steps with someone really supporting you. Still no teeth for you! You love it when anyone sings, especially daddy with his guitar. Sometimes you try to sing along.
You still have the bluest of eyes, chubbiest of legs and cutest little face! And you are always getting comments about how awesome your hair is with a natural styling quiff!

Swimming Lessons

They loved every minute of it! Wren conquered his fear of jumping into the water. Now is trying to figure out a cannon ball. He can swim under water about 3 meters! Annalise figured out how to hold her breath so she could go under water. She spent most of the time just dunking under the water instead of listening to the teacher. They both jumped off the diving board on the last day of swimming! Passed 'pre-school' with flying colours!
