Everett 12 Months!

12 Months

You are now 1 year old, and I can hardly believe it. It really doesn’t seem like a whole year has gone by. You are now walking full time, and loving it. Right around your birthday you got pretty confident with walking and decided that you prefer that to crawling. You walk around with your arms up like a zombie, but much cuter than a zombie. The only time you crawl is if you need to get to something to climb up on so you can walk again. You have gotten up in the middle of the floor once or twice, but are still not convinced you can do that consistently. You have learned all sorts of sounds this month. You are very good at saying ‘bu-bu’ (good bye), although often it’s after the person has already left! You say “ba” (ball) ALL day long. You are completely obsessed with balls. It is always the go-to distraction if we need one quick! You have learned that the dog says ‘woo’ (woof), sheep says ‘ba’, cow says ‘moo’ and sometimes that the bunny goes hop hop hop (actions not words). You say ‘uh oh’ if something falls. You have started to be a parrot and copy our words as best you can! You understand simple things that we tell you, like “go get the ball”, or “night-night time”, “where is the bunny” (in the Muddy Truck book). It’s just so much fun watching you learn. You have a new obsession with books. If we are in the pink rocking chair in your room, you simply must have a book read to you. You love to point at the pictures in the books. You also are starting to love one specific blanket (the one from Shara). And you love soft teddy bears, especially the white bear you got from the policeman. You are constantly getting into mischief because of your curious spirit. You love to find treasures in the kitchen garbage. Once you found coffee grounds and they were everywhere! And the day before your birthday, you found the remnants of Wren’s birthday cake and had blue icing all over your face. That was certainly a treasure indeed! You also still love the toilet and toilet paper. Now you know how to lift the lid, so we have to keep the bathroom door closed. You also got into the china cabinet and broke one of my serving dishes (hindsight, I shouldn’t have stored it there anyway!) Seems like you have a magnet in you for finding places you shouldn’t be.
It’s so nice that you are mostly always sleeping through the night now. We still had some pretty early mornings, but this past week you have been sleeping until 7, which feels AMAZING! And when you sleep until 7, you are much happier with the world. I only nurse you in the morning now. We got rid of the dream feed one night and it didn’t seem to bother you at all (aside from the early mornings, which were happening anyway). I miss my cuddles with you, but I’m sure they will come again someday! Naps are still consistently twice a day for 1.5 hrs. Sometimes you give me grief over leaving you there, but usually get over it quickly.
Your rash has improved so much. You have baths everyday now and get lots of cream put on! You love the baths, but could do without all that cream. You’ve even had a bit of ketchup diluted in recipes and have been ok. I can tell that you are still a bit itchy, but it is way better than before!!
You still love food! I would have to say that fruit and veggies have become your favourite food now. You still like meat, but you love your fruit and veggies and will not stop eating it until I stop serving it to you! You like Cheerios for a snack and love the yogurt melts! You are also a fan of any floor food left behind or little scraps of things, or fuzzes on the carpet, and of course lady beetles, which are everywhere this year. Gross!
What a fun year it has been with you, Everett. You are such a happy, pleasant, curious, and funny little guy. We all love you so much and are so happy you are now part of our family. Wren and Annalise dote on you all day (Wren more than Annalise)! Mommy and Daddy just adore you and are so excited about the person you are becoming. We can’t wait to see what kind of adventure we have with you in the coming years!
